Develop a "safe place" in your classroom –a place where children feel they are especially safe. Make a sign that says, “Safe Place.”
  Use the same daily schedule.

Use a predictable daily schedule with children.
  Each day talk with your children about what they will be doing during that day. Periodically remind them during the day of what activity(ies) come next.

Greet children on their arrival - and give each one a specific “Good-bye” at the end of day.
  When children leave at the end of the day say that you will see them tomorrow.

Be consistent in the words you use. Use the same words for the same activities and the same words for the same directions.
  Ask the child, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Give children choices, but limit the choices.
  Talk with children about "if - then" situations.

Discuss expectations of behavior with children.
  When the children leave for the day help them anticipate the next day by saying, “Tomorrow we will _______________.”

Talk about being safe here at school and that you are going to do everything you can to keep them safe.
  Help children anticipate what the weather may be like tomorrow .

Allow children to telephone parents during the day, if needed or suggest parents visit during the day.
  Talk with children about how the sun goes down in the evening but always comes back up the next morning.
